Get a Library Card?
Welcome to the Wharton County Library. Library cards are free for any resident of Texas. You must complete an application card in person and provide identification and proof of your address when applying for a Library card. A parent (or legal guardian) must sign the Library card application for children under 18 years of age. The first card is free. Replacement of lost cards is a $2.00 fee.
Library cards are issued at time of application, at all branch locations and may be used at any of our four library locations: Wharton, El Campo, East Bernard,and Louise.
Acceptable Identifications are one of the following forms of valid photo I.D. that is not expired:
• Government issued identification card
• Passports from any country
• Any state driver's license
• Any state identification card
• School identification card
If the photo I.D. does not include your address, include a separate document to validate this information such as a utility billing, insurance billing, ETC.
Access my account?
If you are a Wharton County Library cardholder, you can access your Library account online. Simply, come into the local Library, present your Library card, and register for a PIN number (PIN numbers must be registered in person). Juvenile accounts do not have on-line access without parental permissions.
You can also place holds and/or renew items from home if there are no fines or overdue items on your account (see instructions on placing holds and renewing items below).
- Go to the Wharton County Library homepage
- Select the "Catalog" tab. Click on "Log in" in the top right corner to view your Library information.
- Enter your Library card number (27752 . . .) and PIN and click "Log In".
- If you forget your PIN number, come into the Library and present your card to get another one.
To change your PIN number:
- Click on "Library PIN" on the account summary page.
- Follow instructions for "Change Library PIN".
Renew an item?
Most items can be renewed in person, by phone, or on-line (unless items are overdue or a hold has been placed on them by another patron)
- To renew items on-line, a valid PIN number must be registered on your account. (Juvenile accounts do not have on-line access without parental permissions)
- Go to the Wharton County Library homepage
- Select the "Catalog" tab at the top of the screen. Click on "My Account".
- At Patron/Alternate ID number, enter your library card number (22775 . . .)
- At PIN number, enter your PIN number that you registered with the Library
- Open your account and click on "Account Activity" and click the "Renew Loan" button underneath the item(s).
place an item on hold?
You may place a hold on an item that is checked out (except for Express books). Library staff will then call you when it becomes available. This may be done in person, by phone, or on-line.
- To place a hold on-line, a valid PIN number must be registered on your Library account.
- Go to the Wharton County Library homepage
- Select the "Catalog" tab at the top of the screen
- Enter the item in the Search box. Click on "Search"
- Choose your title from the list of results displayed
- Click on the "Place Hold" button
- Enter Patron ID number and PIN.
- A message will appear that your hold has been approved. The Library will notify you when it becomes available for pick up.

Do you like to read on your phone, tablet or computer? If you are a Wharton County Library cardholder, you can access Overdrive or Libby to check out E-books and audiobooks. To get started: simply come into the library, present your card, and register for a PIN number. Children under 16 years of age must have parental permission to get a PIN number.
There are no late fees; all items automatically return to the Library’s collection on their due date. Click here to get started.
