Announced in yesterday’s story time video from Ms. Jessica, Dewey the Library Elf has officially arrived at Wharton Main Library! He’ll be staying at our main branch until Christmas, and if you spot him, let our librarians know—you’ll receive a special treat.
Every day at 9:30 AM, we’ll share Dewey’s latest adventures right here on Facebook, Instagram, and our website. Yesterday, Dewey was late to the library because he stopped by the Wharton County Historical Museum for the first annual Holiday Exhibit. While there, he discovered the book Christmas Tree created by Wharton County Main Library and even joined in the fun giveaway. If you visit the museum and take a selfie with the tree, follow the instructions there to enter our book giveaway drawing.
Dewey couldn’t resist taking his own selfie with the tree before returning to the library, where he’s now quietly reading fairy tales. Stay tuned tomorrow morning for more of Dewey’s holiday adventures!

What’s an elf to do when the library is closed?

Dewey the Library Elf found a way to stay busy—by exploring the library’s many amenities! He couldn’t resist trying out the self-serve copier, which is available for copying, printing, and scanning.

Of course, we wouldn’t recommend using it quite the way Dewey did, but he had fun on his adventure. Come see what Dewey is up to next, and don’t forget to use the copier the right way when you visit Wharton Main Library!

After Dewey’s awful adventure yesterday, he decided a little playtime would be the perfect way to recover. He gathered his friends and headed into the children’s area, where they had so much fun with the lighted arch.

Luckily, no one fell during their playful antics—but just a reminder, that’s not how the arch is meant to be used! It’s a wonderful spot to lay under, read, or tell stories, not for climbing.

Come by Wharton Main Library and enjoy the children’s area the way it was designed—safe, cozy, and perfect for sparking imagination.

Dewey is so excited! He just discovered that the library also has Spanish books. He decided to spend his Saturday exploring the Spanish section. He found the children’s area first, but there is also a wonderful adult Spanish section in the library. And remember to let a librarian know when you find Dewey so you can get a treat.

It’s the last day for Dewey during regular library business hours, and he’s looking forward to seeing you one more time. Today he’s sitting in front of our Save the Date Board, checking out all the fun events coming up at Wharton Main Library in the next few weeks. He’s a little sad to be leaving soon, but he’s also excited knowing you have so many great things to look forward to. You can always find out what’s happening at the library here

Remember, the library is closing early at 5:00 pm today for the Christmas holiday and will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25. We will reopen with normal business hours on Friday, December 26, and Saturday, December 27.

Come by one more time and let a librarian know you found him so you can get a final treat. Dewey will have one more post tomorrow before he officially heads back to the North Pole.
