Friends of the library

Mission Statement

The Friends is a support organization for our local library system, which operates in conjunction and at the request of the Wharton County Library.

Goal

To provide additional financial assistance for library materials, equipment, and/or services from funds the Friends Bookstore and special projects, membership dues, and/or donations.

Volunteers

Friends of the Library eagerly welcome volunteers who would like to work a regular shift in the Bookstore.  The volunteers are occupied greeting the public, sorting/organizing book donations to be shelved, cleaning and maintaining the store, and processing all book sales.

Donations

The organization accepts donations of gently-used books and audiovisual materials.  Items can be dropped off at the Friends Bookstore at the Wharton Main Library during the Book store operational hours.

Book Sales

Friends have ongoing book sales in the Friends Bookstore located in the main entrance of the Wharton Main Library, 1920 N. Fulton, during the hours 10 AM - 5 PM Monday thru Friday and 10AM - 1PM on Saturday.  We also have well-publicized special book sales events.

Annual Dues

The following dues are payable prior to or during the November bi-annual meeting
• $5.00 Individual Membership
• $10.00 Family Membership
• $25.00 Business Membership

Mail-in Dues—All dues and contributions are tax-deductible.  On the check, please include:  Name, Address, Contact Information, and Date.  Please make checks payable to Friends of the Library Wharton and mail to:

Meetings

Meetings are held bi-annually in November and May.  Officer elections and dues collection are usually November activities.
